The transition of the basically local military-political crisis in the Western Eurasia into the real focus of global geopolitical transformations and civilizational confrontation. That has brought to the agenda the issue of degradation of the principles of universalities that were the basis for globalization in both: socio-political and socio-economic spheres thus demonstrating deepening interaction between them. The world is facing the perspective of competition of different models of development and their political and social localization that reflect the specifics of social-economic environment. The fact that global transformations became the result of interaction of the objective and subjective, contextual factors as well as sometimes were brought to reality through the interaction of political leaders brings us to the conclusion that the world is nowadays within the transitional era that contains several points of bifurcation of political nature that in turn drive for different models of socioeconomic development. The sharp nature of ongoing transformations reflects the situation when most of the paradigms and instrumental models that were regarded as axiomatically universal like institutional governance and representative democracy started to lose their relevance as political and socio-political management tools. The same is true about a bulk of global economic tools such as the universal protected nature of economic interdependence and international trade. But all that was the basis for the globalization. The system of global political and economic relations that has resided quite recently in the environment of nearly total universality started to lose synergy and integrity while forming complex localized formats in which political and socio-cultural factors play the leading role ahead of economic basis and socio-economic relationships. The research drives to the conclusion on the possibility of emergence of the two competing models claiming a global status the specifics of interaction between them and the key differences between them.

This article maps out the prevalent trends in publications about contemporary literature and culture with regard to their methodological grounding. It distinguishes three methodological principles (periodisation, heuristics and contextualisation) available to contemporary literary theorists who are trying to come to terms with the cultural shift they are a part of and are influenced by. A large number of publications examined for this article uses periodisation as an underlying methodological principle. The article discusses the consequences that this has for the idea and image of contemporary literature presented in these publications. Attention is paid to the critique of the use of periodisation as well as to two specific concepts proposed for the analysis of contemporary literature. Both these concepts (poetics of politics and affective dominant) are rooted in contextualisation, especially with regard to politics, but they differ in their use of the periodising framework.

Likewise, in his introduction to the “After Postmodernism” special issue of Twentieth Century Literature , Andrew Hoberek observes that declarations of the decline of postmodernism have become enough of a critical commonplace that it has now become something of a critical commonplace to even cite this fact (, p. 233–34). Jeffrey T. Nealon's book, Post‐Postmodernism, or, The Cultural Logic of Just‐in‐Time Capitalism argues not for a movement “beyond” postmodernism, but for its intensification.…”

If "the contemporary" is the heading under which scholars study recent literary, artistic, and cultural forms, what exactly is it? Is it a period? A style? A type of contentnetworks, finance, or climate changethat feels diagnostic of the present? For literary scholars, the contemporary is a persistently moving target. Rather than stating when it is, we consider critical methods of reading the contemporary alongside the objects they favor and promote. We thereby disrupt the idea of an accepted canon of contemporary fiction by showing the wide array of texts contemporary critics do in fact study. This survey covers contemporary approaches to fiction that find their starting points in the neoliberal economy, in systems and institutions, in theories of the Anthropocene and world literature, and in critical race studies. We conclude with the proliferating "posts" of contemporary literature and theorypost-human, post-racial, and even post-postmodernand with our intuitions about the temporal and historical function of literary form in contemporary fiction.
