The article presents a simple and highly engaging activity for students involving DNA fingerprints, DNA bands, genotypes, phenotypes, and DNA morphology. The science of DNA fingerprinting, currently done by electrophoresis, extends to all living organisms containing DNA.KEYWORDS banding patterns, DNA banding, DNA fingerprint, genotype, phenotype and genes OBJECTIVES Students will be able to explain and illustrate how DNA fingerprints are made and to construct their own DNA fingerprints. They will further determine and discover that the relationship among banding patterns is unique to individuals and different between two or more individuals. Students will produce banding patterns related to hypervariable regions within the DNA fingerprints they create.
