Intravenous Administration of High-Dose Paclitaxel Reduces Gut-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Cell Number and Respiratory Immunoglobulin A Concentrations in Mice

Abstract: The present data suggest high-dose PTX impairs mucosal immunity, possibly rendering patients more vulnerable to infection. Careful dose selection and new therapies may be important for maintaining mucosal immunity during PTX chemotherapy.

“…Within the HNSC microenvironment, the administration of paclitaxel via intravenous routes appears to influence mucosal immunity, potentially contributing to the development of resistance to chemotherapy. This observed effect could be linked to a plausible mechanism involving the reduction in the number of gut-associated lymphoid tissue cells 38 . This finding sheds light on the multifaceted consequences of paclitaxel administration beyond its direct cytotoxic effects, emphasizing the importance of understanding and mitigating potential immunomodulatory impacts in HNSC treatment.…”

“…[3][4][5] Mucosal immune dysregulation can cause harmful substances, such as bacteria and antigens, to enter the body and cause diseases, including persistent stomachache, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, respiratory infections, bronchitis, etc. Thus, it is extremely important to enhance mucosal immunity to prevent infection disease.…”
