“…The average weight and height of the SGA infants rose from below the third percentile at birth to between the 10th to 25th percentile at 6 months, and remained around the 25th percentile through age 8 years. Low et al 33,34 compared the growth through age 5 years of 76 white SGA infants born at term with that of 88 AGA infants (birth weight Ͼ25th percentile). The SGA infants demonstrated accelerated growth during the first 3 months, but never completely caught up, remaining smaller at age 60 months by an average of 2.3 kg and 3.6 cm.…”

“…Finally, studies of various other authors cannot be used for comparison, as these authors determined total estrogens in serum which does not render such definite results [8,9,11,17]. In keeping with numerous other studies [5,10,16,19] our investigations also showed evidence of retarded development during the first two years of the infant's life in cases of premature birth, intrauterine growth retardation, low Apgar score or cesarian section. Due to this, it was here attempted to find the appropriate method of determining estriol to allow a correct prognostic evalution of the condition of the infant at birth and in its early two years development.…”

“…Newborn and infant mortality and morbidity are significantly high among these babies. [3][4] Those who survive adulthood are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases like hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus and obstructive lung disease. 5 To prevent these adverse effects, growth charts can be used at primary health care level to screening the vulnerable babies for proper attention by the appropriate health care providers.…”
