Intrauterine candidiasis: report of four cases

Abstract: The pathogenic significance of fetal contamination by candida appears to depend largely on gestational age. Candida infection of the fetus can result in prematurity and death. The importance of early and accurate diagnosis of intraamniotic infection with candida is emphasized.

“…Brabin and colleagues demonstrated reproductive tract infections induced abortion in girls in rural areas 12. Meizoso et al reported three of the cases had predisposing risk factors, like rupture of membranes or intrauterine contraceptive device, and ended in fetal death 13 . Our results revealed abortive women had a high proportion of infection than women without abortion, providing strong evidence that there is a firm relationship between vaginal infection and abortion.…”

“…In infected children born by GBS (-) mothers, E. coli and Enterococcus faecalis were the most common pathogens [12]. According to other authors, Streptococcus agalactiae, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus [1][2][3][4] were identified as pathogens responsible for early symptomatic infections [1][2][3][4]. In our own study, early-symptomatic infection was found in 88 (6.62%) of newly born infants.…”

“…Najczęstsze z nich to Streptococcus agalactiae, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus. Niektóre z tych patogenów mogą być przyczyną występowania wczesno lub późno-objawowych zakażeń u noworodków, nierzadko o bardzo ciężkim przebiegu klinicznym [1][2][3][4]. Mimo ogromnego postępu, jaki dokonał się w dziedzinie opieki perinatalnej, wciąż istnieje ryzyko zakażenia płodu w przebiegu ciąży lub porodu.…”
