“…Among others, there is the possibility of treating in utero a fetus suffering from cardiac disorders such as severe paroxysmal tachycardia [7] or heart failure [2] by digitalizing the mother. However, to do so, more information is needed about the chronology of the placental transfer of the drug, partic ularly about the time of the cardiac glucosides' appearance in the umbilical circulation, the duration of treatment necessary for equilibrium between mother and fetus, and the influence of various levels of maternal plasma concentration on this transfer.…”

“…Irregular fetal heart sounds are accidentally heard at antenatal examinations and doubts may arise about their significance. Fetal heart arrhythmias have been considered a sign of immaturity of the conducting system without clinical importance (Levkoff 1969), but certain arrhythmias, such as paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia and bradycardia can have severe haemodynamic consequences (Silber & Durnin 1969;Schreiner et al 1978;Valerius et al 1978;Lingman et al 1980). Therefore, it is of interest to assess the haemodynamic effects of heart arrhythmias.…”
