Intrathecal synthesis in particular types of multiple sclerosis

Abstract: Aim. The aim of this study was to determine whether there were any differences in intrathecal synthesis of immunoglobulin G (IgG) (IgG index) and number of oligoclonal bands (OCB) among particular types of multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods. 120 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were examined from 29 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 91 MS patients (77 patients with relapsing-remitting MS (RR), 6 patients with primary progressive course of the disease (PP) and 8 patients in secondary progression (S… Show more

“…For similar reasons we included some MS patients with long disease duration who still had intrathecal synthesis of IgG. Disease duration does not seem to influence the degree of intrathecal IgG synthesis in MS [4,36], which might rather be determined by genetic factors [37]. It is possible that a study restricted to MS patients with shorter disease duration or more active inflammation would have shown a less stringent compartmentalization of the B-cell response.…”

“…In addition, the CSF NFL level in the CIS and MS groups was not related to CSF OCB, and the CSF NFL level in the NMOSD group was not related to serum AQP4-Ab. Some scholars found that whether the OCB was positive or not was related to the EDSS score (Sladkova et al, 2014) in MS patients, and most scholars believe that the effect of serum AQP4-Ab positivity on the EDSS score and clinical relapse is not yet clear in NMOSD patients (Chanson et al, 2013;Jarius et al, 2008), suggesting that the CSF NFL level is a biological indicator of the degree of disability and disease activity, independent of CSF OCB and serum AQP4-Ab.…”

В работе A. Abdelhak и соавт.…”
