We have reviewed the literature data regarding the spectrum of tumors including solitary fibrous tumor and hemangiopericytoma with special focus on definition of the disease, discussion of the criteria for malignancy, and the key elements of standard treatment of localized disease. We have discussed the emerging concepts on the tumor biology and the different systemic treatments (chemotherapy and molecular-targeted therapies).

Solitary fibrous tumor is a rare spindle cell mesenchymal tumor entity, with either benign or malignant behavior that cannot be accurately predicted by histological findings. An intrapulmonary site of origin is even rarer. We report a case of a 51-year-old woman in whom an abnormal nodule in the lower right lung was detected during staging for sigmoid adenocarcinoma. The nodule was excised and pathological examination revealed an intrapulmonary solitary fibrous tumor.

Soliter fibröz tümörler çoğunlukla plevral boşlukta görülen seyrek tümörlerdir. İntrapulmoner soliter fibröz tümörler ise oldukça nadirdir. Yetmiş beş yaşında kadın hasta nefes darlığı şikâyeti ile kliniğimize başvurdu. Toraks tomografisinde, sol alt lobda, intraparankimal kitle tespit edildi. Sol alt lobektomi yapıldı. Patolojik tanı ise spesifik marker (CD34, Vimentin, BCL2) ile konuldu. Bu yazıda, intraparankimal soliter fibröz tümör olgusunu sunduk. Anahtar Sözcükler: Soliter fbröz tümör, akciğer, cerrahi.Solitary fibrous tumors (SFT) are a rare tumor that frequently occurs in the pleural space, but intrapulmonary SFT is very seldom. A 75-year-old female was admitted to our clinic with dyspnea. The chest tomography showed an intrapulmonary lesion in the left lower lobe of the lung. A left lower lobectomy was performed. The pathological diagnosis was obtained by specific markers including CD34, vimentin, and BCL2. The present study presents a rare case of an entirety intrapulmonary localized fibrous tumor of the lung.
