Intranodal Palisaded Myofibroblastoma

Abstract: Intranodal palisaded myofibroblastoma is a rare benign primary mesenchymal neoplasm originating from differentiated smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts. The precise etiology and pathogenesis has not been adequately explained as yet. Very few series and cases have been reported in the literature. Though inguinal region is the commonest site of this rare tumor, but the tumor at other diverse sites have been reported. Because of its rarity, it can be often misdiagnosed and confused with other disorders and mor… Show more

“…IPM pathological differential diagnosis includes a wide spectrum of lesions 5–7 8 11. The most important are represented by schwannoma and Kaposi sarcoma 1 6. Moreover, haemangioendothelioma, intranodal leiomioma, leiomiosarcoma, dendritic reticulum cell tumour, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumour, primary and metastatic malignant spindle-cell tumours should also be considered in the differential diagnosis 1 2 4–10.…”

“…Intranodal palisaded myofibroblastoma (IPM) is a rare distinctive benign mesenchymal tumor of lymph node originating from smooth muscle cells and myofibroblasts . IPM most commonly occurs between the ages of 45 to 55 years with 2:1 male predominance which usually presents as a slow‐growing, painless mass in inguinal lymph nodes.…”

“…It has been established that mammary-type myofibroblastomas commonly originate from the embryonic milk-line, extending from the mid-axilla to the medial groin (2). Although mammary-type myofibroblastomas are commonly reported in the iliac area, they are rarely reported in the axillae, mid-back, retroperitoneum, or buttocks (2,3). In fact, to the best of our knowledge, only two previous cases of mammary-type myofibroblastoma involving the buttocks have been reported.…”
