Case of a Closed Choledochocele With Biliary and Pancreatic Drainage via the Accessory Duct Causing Acute Pancreatitis

“…These cysts can predispose a patient to biliary colic, obstructive jaundice or recurrent pancreatitis through an obstructive mechanism when the normal flow of bile and pancreatic juice is disrupted. [1][2][3] They have previously been described in two anatomical subtypes: (i) both the pancreatic and bile ducts drain into the choledochocele; and (ii) the choledochocele is a cystic outpouching into the duodenum proximal to a normal ampulla. Endoscopic treatment using needle-knife sphincterotomy is increasingly being used for definitive treatment of these cysts in place of surgical excision.…”
