Intraductal Tubular Adenoma of the Pancreas, Pyloric Gland Type

Abstract: The intraductal tubular adenoma (ITA), pyloric gland type, of the pancreas is an uncommon benign tumor, akin to the pyloric gland type adenoma of the gallbladder. We report 6 cases of ITA of the pancreas: 3 male and 3 female aged 50 to 79 years (mean, 63.5 years; median, 65 years); all were examined clinicopathologically. Four patients showed no symptoms, but appetite loss and/or general fatigue presented in two. Grossly, all tumors formed a localized polypoid mass protruding into the lumen of the dilated panc… Show more

“…ITA is a solitary lesion with a marked predilection for the main pancreatic duct in the head and body of the pancreas. Two cases involving branch ducts have been described, 3,8 whereas only one case has been encountered in the tail 1 . They are generally small lesions ranging from 4.5 to 50 mm with an average size of 13 mm.…”

“…In the author's experience, focal pyloric gland component is not uncommonly seen in an otherwise typical gastric foveolar subtype of IPMN (Figure 8). In addition, in concordance with their nondysplastic property, the cells do not show nuclear immunostaining for p53, or loss of DPC4 [72]. Others have used the term “intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm” to describe cases in which the intraductal tumor is characterized by solid mass without evident mucin [69].…”
