Intraconal Orbital Dermoid Cyst in an Adult Patient: A Rare Location

Abstract: Orbital dermoid cyst is a rare cause of orbital tumor in the adult population. Most of the orbital dermoids are extraconal, arising adjacent to bone suture and occurring in the pediatric patients. Deep orbital dermoid cyst located entirely intraconally is extremely rare. We report a case of intraconal orbital dermoid in an adult patient with CT and MRI evaluation.

“…3,4 Based on the Pub Med database using Intraconal and dermoid cyst as the keywords, only 6 case reports have been described in the literature from the year 1986 to 2020. Three of them involved the intraconal compartment of the orbit, 5,6,7 and in 3 cases it was arising from the lateral rectus muscle. 8,9 Herein, we report a large intraconal dermoid cyst presenting with proptosis, diplopia, and orbital pain, compressing the optic nerve in a 30-year-old male who was successfully managed through a transnasal endoscopic approach.…”
