Abstract

Cytosolic free Ca2+ has been measured in living hyphae of Aspergillus awamori expressing a codon-optimised aequorin gene. Aequorin is a Ca2+-sensitive photoprotein, naturally produced by the jellyfish Aequorea victoria. Using this system we have found a range of treatments, which can be readily applied to fungi growing in 96 well plates, increase [Ca2+Ic.
