“…Factor endowments, measured in two ways, are shown to be negatively related to VIIT, as Gabrisch () also showed. Our findings are also in line with those of Fainštein and Netšunajev (), analysing IIT patterns in the Baltic States and showing that market size was positively related to IIT, while a negative relationship between distance and share of IIT was found together with a negative correlation between differences in human capital and IIT.…”

“…These findings are consistent with the majority of the literature, finding negative relationships between factor endowments, distance and HIIT, and positive relationships between economic size and HIIT (Greenaway et al, 1994;Zhang and Li, 2006;Milgram-Baleix and Moro-Egido, 2010). As to agriculture-related factor endowments, these results are in line with some research in finding a negative relationship between agricultural labour and HIIT (Blanes and Mart ın, 2000;Fain stein and Net sunajev, 2011), though many found agricultural capital and HIIT to be positively related (Fain stein and Net sunajev, 2011;Leitão, 2012), contrary to these results. As to the positive relationship between liberalised trade (proxied here by NMS regional trade and EU accession) and HIIT, results are consistent with the majority of the literature (Zhang and Li, 2006;Ambroziak, 2012).…”

“…Moreover, recent studies on intra-industry trade in goods have shown a dramatic increase in trade in intermediate inputs (Bernatonyte 2012;Bernatonyte, Normantiene 2007;Fainštein, Netšunajev 2011). Although most empirical works have focused on manufacturing, recent studies such as that conducted by Backer and Miroudot (2013) point out that not only the use but also the production of services is becoming global.…”

“…Moreover, changing bilateral differences in personal income distribution during the transition of the 'new' EU Member States were found to contribute to changes in VIIT. Fainštein and Netšunajev (2011) showed that market size was positively related to IIT in the Baltic States. However, a negative relationship between distance and the share of IIT was found, together with a negative correlation between difference in human capital and IIT.…”
