“…DV is any act that occurs within a domestic home where power and violence are used to dominate and control (Adams et al, 2022; Bradbury‐Jones & Isham, 2020; Hollingdrake et al, 2022; Ogbe et al, 2020), most commonly perpetrated by either a current or ex‐partner of the victim (Bradbury‐Jones & Isham, 2020; Bradbury‐Jones & Nikupeteri, 2021; Kourti et al, 2021; Papas et al, 2023). DV can involve a constellation of physical violence, harassment, sexual violence, coercion, stalking, financial control, emotional abuse and coercive control (Bradbury‐Jones & Isham, 2020; Gracia et al, 2020; Hollingdrake et al, 2022; Ogbe et al, 2020; World Health Organization, 2012).…”

“…The physical, emotional and social impacts of domestic abuse are serious (Devaney et al, 2021, pg. 785-789), with women of child-bearing age greatly affected (Baird et al, 2013) having long-term consequences on their children's physical and psychological well-being (Kitzmann et al, 2003;Naughton et al, 2017;Taylor, 2019). Public health nurses (PHNs) have a mandate to visit all mothers after discharge from midwifery services (Giltenane et al, 2021a) and are ideally placed to offer women opportunities to disclose, and signpost women experiencing abuse to supportive services in a safe and confidential manner (Leahy-Warren, 2007;Bradbury-Jones & Broadhurst, 2015, Bradbury-Jones & Nikupeteri, 2021. PHN's approach to identifying and responding to domestic abuse can greatly affect a mother's ability to disclose and seek help for herself and her children.…”

“…The presentation, dynamics and impact of DV are better understood than ever before. The current pandemic has led to escalating DV rates(Usher et al, 2021, Bradbury- Jones & Nikupeteri, 2021. Greater understanding of coercive control, digital and technological tracking of women's conversations and movements means interdisciplinary working is essential to ensure safety for women and nurses Wyatt et al (2019).…”

“…Moreover, the studies that explore this from the perspective of post-separation survivors are missing. Insights are predominantly from non-empirical sources, such as the editorial by Bradbury-Jones and Nikupeteri (2021) . This study therefore addresses a research and literary gap, aiming to direct a spotlight on the experiences of this group of DV survivors.…”
