Abstract: placebo gels were rubbed onto the skin in the same way as active treatments, we found that active treatments were significantly better than placebo. Creating double blind conditions in trials of counter irritants can be problematic as rubefacients irritate the skin whereas inactive placebos do not. Some studies allowed for this by removing the principle ingredient from the treatment, leaving a placebo vehicle containing some other potentially irritant ingredients. Although the number needed to treat for combin… Show more

“…In fact, this might be the result of failing to process available environmental information to foresee the consequences of their behavior (Sun et al, 2015). This is congruent with the proposal of social processing information, which establishes that IPV might be explained, at least in part, by the existence of hostile attributions, marital distortions, and cognitive deficits, among others, in IPV perpetrators (Agnew & South, 2014;Gracia et al, 2020;Murphy et al, 2014;Taft et al, 2017). “…Consistent with the social information processing model of IPA, compared to nonviolent men, men who use IPA attribute more negative and hostile intentions to female partners, show an emotional bias toward anger, select less-socially competent responses to relationship challenges, and have more positive expectations for use of aggression (Holtzworth-Munroe, 1992; Murphy, Norwood, & Poole, 2014). Our trauma-informed social information processing model extends this work to implicate trauma, and trauma-related problems such as PTSD, as drivers of social information processing deficits (Taft et al, 2015).…”

“…IPV is a serious health epidemic that is a contributing factor to traumatic physical injuries and mental health conditions for perpetrators and victims (Murphy et al, 2014). Understanding disease beyond diagnosis, to include the biological, psychological, and social facets of etiology, has revolutionized modern understanding of disease (Havelka et al, 2009).…”
