Intestinal microbial ecology and hematological parameters of broiler fed cassava waste pulp fermented with Acremonium charticola

Abstract: Aim:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of feeding Acremonium charticola-fermented cassava pulp (AC-FCP) on the intestinal microbial ecology and hematological indices of broiler chickens.Materials and Methods:A total of 240 male Lohman day-old-chicks were randomly allotted to one of the four experimental diets including control diet, control diet + antimicrobials (neomycin; 300 mg/kg diet), diet containing AC-FCP (16 g/100 g diet) or diet containing AC-FCP + antimicrobials. At day 28, the birds fr… Show more

“…This present finding was in agreement with that of previously reported by Hosseini-Vashan et al (2012) when feeding turmeric rhizome powder to broilers under heat stress conditions. The H/L ratio has commonly been used as an indicator of stress and infections in broilers (Sugiharto et al, 2016a;2016b;2017b). In this basis, decocted turmeric seemed beneficial in alleviating the stress and infections in broiler chickens.…”

“…After centrifugation at 2,000 rpm for 15 min, the serum was obtained and frozen until serum biochemistry analysis. The enumeration of heterophils and lymphocytes, and the analysis of serum biochemistry were determined according to Sugiharto et al (2017b). At day 32, the birds were slaughtered, de-feathered and eviscerated.…”

“…The rest of the blood was collected in the vacutainers with no anticoagulant, let to clot at room temperature, and centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 15 minutes to produce serum. The serum was frozen until analyses of antibody titres and serum biochemistry (Sugiharto et al, 2017a). At day 35, a total of 24 chicks were slaughtered, de-feathered and eviscerated.…”

“…The selected bacterial populations in the ileal digesta of chicks were determined based on Sugiharto et al . [ 18 ]. Coliform bacteria and lactose-negative Enterobacteriaceae were counted on MacConkey agar (Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany) after aerobic incubation at 38°C for 24 h as red and colorless colonies, respectively.…”
