Interviewing people with mental handicaps for the Community Aide Programme

Abstract: SUMMARY. The Community Aide Programme is a new scheme in Britain designed to employ people with mild mental handicaps as paid assistants undertaking personal and domestic tasks for people with physical handicaps. The usual form of verbal dialogue is inappropriate when interviewing potential assistants. A new technique was used in a pilot scheme to help applicants participate constructively in interviews.
