“…The interventional echocardiographer plays an indispensable role in the preprocedural evaluation, case planning, periprocedural guidance, and postprocedural assessment of patient outcomes. As the number of operators who are experienced in interventional echocardiography has grown, there has been an identification of several specific skills and core competencies in all modalities of echocardiography, including iTEE, TTE, and ICE 18–20 (Table 1). While it is important for interventional echocardiographers to be facile in all aspects of echocardiography in SHD care, further discussion will focus on the specific aspect of iTEE for procedural guidance.…”

“…This issue of Structural Heart contains an opinion piece from experts in both intervention and imaging as to the knowledge, skill set, and attitude necessary to be an interventional imager for structural heart disease. 8 It would seem that the information and skills necessary for effective structural disease imaging is felt to be more unique and less prevalent in the imaging community than that for interventional procedures is in the interventional community. In fact, these authors even propose specific knowledge, skills, and volumes that might be considered in establishing expertise in interventional imaging in structural disease.…”
