Interval laparoscopic transabdominal cervical cerclage (ILTACC) using needleless mersilene tape for cervical incompetence

Abstract: Interval Laparoscopic Transabdominal Cervical Cerclage (ILTACC) has become a procedure of choice for many laparoscopic surgeons in nonpregnant patients diagnosed with cervical incompetence (CI) due to the inherent advantages it offers. The study was conducted to describe the feasibility of performing a three-step approach of ILTACC using a needleless mersilene tape in patients diagnosed with CI. A case series of three patients diagnosed with CI who underwent ILTACC using needleless mersilene tape referred at a… Show more

“…[ 5 ] Only a few cases were reported regarding complications after vaginal or laparoscopic abdominal cerclage using Mersilene tape following radical trachelectomy. [ 6 7 8 9 10 ] Placement of foreign body such as Mersilene tape can be a risk factor for poor wound healing; hence, prone to infection which is seen in the index patient as vaginal mersilene tape erosion. Dissection of the pelvic floor spaces may contribute to the disruption of the integrity of the pelvic floor.…”

“…An abdominal cerclage can be removed by posterior colpotomy, sparing all the risks of laparoscopic removal of abdominal cerclage, or by laparotomy/cesarean delivery, with faster recovery, lower cost, and fewer long-term adverse effects, such as abdominal adhesions [ 7 , 10 ]. This surgery requires a clear operative strategy and superior vaginal operating skills, which could be its limiting factors if not being done often [ 6 ].…”

“…Moreover, this approach offers the potential benefits of shorter hospital stay, fewer adhesions, and faster recovery. [ 2 , 3 ] Laparoscopy is now frequently used to diagnose and treat pregnant women experiencing abdominal pain. It is well tolerated by both the mother and the fetus, with only minor side effects observed during all three trimesters.…”
