Interstate War Battle dataset (1823–2003)

As such, longstanding views of war have not been tested systematically using intraconflict measures, and deeper studies of war dynamics have also been hampered. I address these gaps by creating and introducing the Interstate War Battle (IWB) dataset, which captures t… Show more

“…The dataset contains extensive in–depth information on each individual battle, including participants, outcome and date (to the day). The IWB however, is restricted to CoW interstate wars only (1823-2003) (Min 2021). Thus while it serves as a useful resource for testing theories about the impact of battlefield events on political negotiations, for instance, it is less well suited than HCED for testing theories on the very long term causes and impacts of military conflict.…”

In that sense, the experiences of soldiers who serve in wartime are substantially different when compared with the experiences of soldiers that serve during times of peace.…”
