The problem of intolerance in Indonesia is increasing as evidenced by the results of the SETARA Institute survey, which has increased to 8% in 2020. This is due to the distant understanding of religion which is then wrapped up by the politicization of religion. To answer this problem, a deeper understanding of theology is needed. Therefore, the researcher conducted research with a qualitative descriptive approach through a comparative study to describe these thoughts. After conducting research, it was found that the theological thoughts of Hans Kung and Abdurrahman Wahid both emphasized the importance of dialogue as a basis for mutual understanding, both the teachings of one's own religion and the religions and beliefs of others. The theory used is the theory of Ecumenical Theology (the important thing is the understanding of a religion that cannot be understood only by adherents of that religion but also by people outside the religion) and also Pluralism (the attitude of religious beliefs is the most correct but does not then blame religion or other beliefs).

This study analyzed the community interaction in Larantuka City, East Flores with the aim of determining the implementation of the Nostra Aetate document and the reciprocity between Muslims, Catholics, and Protestants. The qualitative data of this study were obtained from studies on documents and interviews with sources from Catholics, Muslims, and Protestants living in Larantuka. This study was conducted between January and June 2021. The researcher drew three conclusions from this study. First, Larantuka residents are open to accepting and acknowledging the presence of other religions besides Catholicism. Other religions are given the liberty to express their faith in Larantuka. Second, the Nostra Aetate document has been practiced, albeit not perfectly. The spirit of rivalry that grew among Catholics in the past is turning into a spirit of dialogue. Third, the “tulun talin" spirit, the Lamaholot customs and habits of supporting those in need or helping each other, which are the cultural background of the Larantuka people, serves as a way for the people to express the spirit of equal reciprocity among religious believers in Larantuka which Nostra Aetate inspired. The dominant attitudes are cooperation, mutual respect, and mutual acknowledgment that the presence and existence of other people with all religious and cultural backgrounds attached to them is a prerequisite for building human civilization and the common good.

Semarang City is a city that has social, religious, and cultural diversity. There is currently potential for conflict in several areas of Semarang City due to the rejection of the establishment of religious minority places of worship. The purpose of this research is to reveal the potential causes of conflicts over the construction of houses of worship of minority religions and to find appropriate strategies to prevent conflicts from occurring due to the construction of houses of worship of the majority religion. This qualitative research adopted a case study approach with data collection techniques of observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with key informants and supporting informants. The results of this study indicate that in the Tlogosari and Sendangmulyo areas there is the potential for conflicts to occur against the background of the construction of a church house of worship, the root cause of this potential conflict is due to the refusal of permits. The conflict prevention strategy is to provide social education to the community regarding pluralism education with a social approach that is carried out with synergy between the government and the community. The implications of this research can be used as a reference by the Semarang City Government in preventing conflicts due to the establishment of religious minority places of worship.
