“…Western blot was less sensitive for HIV antibody recognition than the synthetic peptide assay (Behring) and antibodies to core were always the first to be recognized. Many reports pointed to the unspecific nature of this initial antibody pattern in the Western blot assay [5,6], First-generation assays were the least sensitive tests for recognition of HIV antibody response. In accordance with these data we suggest that ELISA using synthetic peptides seems the best approach to the use of blood banks in order to detect HIV seroconversion as early as possible.…”
