Interpretation of experimentalJPCexotic signals

Abstract: We investigate theoretical interpretations of the 1.4 GeV J P C exotic resonance reported by the E852 collaboration. It is argued that interpretation in terms of a hybrid meson is untenable. A K-matrix analysis shows that the 1.4 GeV enhancement in the E852 ηπ data can be understood as an interference of a non-resonant Decktype background and a resonance at 1.6 GeV. A final state rescattering calculation shows that the 1.6 GeV hybrid has a ηπ width which is bounded above by 57 ± 14 MeV.

“…All are reasonably consistent, and even the null observations of VES and E852-IU all concur that there is strength near 1.4 GeV in the J P C exotic wave. However, the E852 and VES results can be explained as either non-resonant background [137], or non-resonant Deck amplitudes [135]. Another possibility is the opening of meson-meson thresholds, such as f 1 (1285)π.…”

“…Donnachie and Page showed that the π 1 (1400) could be an artifact of the production dynamics. They demonstrated that is possible to understand the π 1 (1400) peak as a consequence of the π 1 (1600) (see Section 5.3) interfering with a non-resonant Deck-type background with an appropriate relative phase [135]. Zhang [136] considered a molecular picture where the π 1 (1400) was an η(1295)π molecule.…”

“…There was an attempt to explain the π 1 (1400) as a coupled channel effect dynamically generated in πη and πη ′ scattering [12]. Donnachie and one of us (Page) suggested that the peak at 1400 MeV is a consequence of the interference of a 1600 MeV resonance with a nonresonant Deck-type background with appropriate phase [13]. So far, this scenario has only been argued to account for the E852 data, and has not been extended to the Crystal Barrel data.…”

“…Hence C-exotics from P-wave four (light)-quark systems are likely to be significantly further away from the appropriate thresholds, as appears also to be the case for hybrid C-exotics [16].…”
