Las tecnologías forenses en los últimos años han incrementado su capacidad lo que ha permitido que obtengan una mejor sensibilidad y la fuerza del potencial de investigación de los científicos forenses que amplían el campo e incorporan muchas tecnologías que van desde el reconocimiento de patrones hasta la composición química y su análisis. Numerosos campos dentro de la ciencia forense se han desarrollado considerablemente a lo largo de los años, y las nuevas tecnologías han permitido nuevas aplicaciones de la ciencia forense. Este trabajo es una revisión que comprende las técnicas que se utilizan habitualmente en los laboratorios forenses, los desarrollos que tienen lugar en las universidades y otras organizaciones de investigación, que pueden volverse habituales en la ciencia forense en el futuro. El avance en la ciencia forense digital y el mayor uso de evidencia digital en los tribunales requiere una formación constante para los jueces y los científicos forenses. Esto asegurará que estén familiarizados con las tecnologías existentes y emergentes aplicables en las investigaciones forenses. Por lo tanto, comprender adecuadamente el funcionamiento de las diferentes tecnologías forenses es fundamental para ayudar a la eficacia de los sistemas que deseen implementarse.

Forensic science has long been used in criminal investigations and the justice system. The standards applied to contemporary forensic practice have changed dramatically in the past decade. Presented here is a modern-day review of textile damage science in the context of these changing standards, and how they have challenged the presentation of scientific evidence. The prevalence of textile damage examinations is fluctuating in the current forensic environment. Some laboratories are conducting more examinations than ever, and other laboratories are no longer able to conduct examinations due to limitations in resourcing or case numbers. This dynamic landscape will no doubt continue as the occurrence of crime fluctuates throughout and beyond the pandemic affecting the world.

Extraction and Characterization of Fibres from the Bark of Ficus Nekbudu Tree

This paper investigates the extraction and characterization of fibres from the bark of the ficus nekbudu tree. The Ficus Nekbudu Fibres (FNF) was extracted from the bark by retting in water and then treatment with sodium hydroxide solution. The extracted FNF was analysed for chemical composition, physical, tensile, surface, structural and thermal stability properties. Findings on the chemical composition indicated that FNF has cellulose (49.9 %), lignin (13.4%), ash (7.1%) and water content (8.1%). From the physical investigation it was found that FNF has density (1.42 ± 0.005 g/cm3 ) and moisture regain (9.2 ±0.3%). From mechanical investigation it was found that FNF has tenacity (2.56 ± 0.75 cN/dtex) and extension at break (9.23 ± 2.85%). SEM analysis indicated that FNF has rough surface with some surface impurities. The ATR- FTIR analysis indicates that the FNF has Total Crystallinity Index (TCI) and Lateral Order Index (LOI) of 0.52 and 0.41, respectively. Thermal analysis indicates that the FNF are stable up to 250°C.
