Interoperable, Smart, and Sustainable Urban Energy Systems

Raúl Pastor,
Anabel Fraga,
Luis López-Cózar

Abstract: The decarbonization of cities is a priority for the European Union (EU). Fossil fuel and gas supplies need to be replaced with local renewable energy sources with a relevant increase in efficiency within 20 years in order to cap environmental, social, and economic negative impacts, and this cannot do significant harm. In this context, smart city development frameworks focused on mitigation, adaptation, and measurement not only collaborate in providing governance for sustainability but also facilitate the mater… Show more

“…As advanced in [6], urban planners are involved in designing future urban energy systems as a part of their path toward decarbonization or Net Zero targets before 2050. The Making-city project and other current research works [7][8][9] provide carbon-free energy solutions for Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) and the potential to create sustainable and energy-positive communities.…”

“…The journal "Sustainability" welcomes studies on sustainability in different fields. In the journal, linguistic methods are increasingly used by non-linguist scholars to explore diverse topics, from business (Nielsen & Villadsen 2023;Oppong-Tawiah & Webster 2023) to urban development (Pastor et al, 2023). However, in searching for studies published by linguistics scholars, the list shrinks and leads to a special issue (Eds.…”
