This research focuses on a systematic literature review of the geospatial Linked Data (LD) publication at National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies in Europe (NMCA) responsible for land administration. We analysed scientific studies published from 2014 to 2023. Our research aimed to find out the reasons for the relatively slow adoption of geospatial data publication as LD. Therefore, we searched for the most common problems, solutions, and challenges for publishing prioritised data themes in NMCAs. Applied research methodology relies on well-established approaches such as analysing Population Problems, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes, and Circumstances (PICOC) and backward snowballing. The eligibility process is presented by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We analysed nineteen extracted papers and identified twelve key issues from full-text reading. Frequency analyses resulted in the overview of the most frequently published geospatial themes as LD in several European countries. We addressed five research questions and concluded that in addition to systematic support for developing vocabularies and ontologies, trust, awareness, and knowledge about best practices could influence the success of LD publication at NMCAs.

Geospatial data is increasingly being made available on the Web as knowledge graphs using Linked Data principles. This entails adopting the best practices for publishing, retrieving, and using data, providing relevant initiatives that play a prominent role in the Web of Data. Despite the appropriate progress related to the amount of geospatial data available, knowledge graphs still face significant limitations in the GIScience community since their use, consumption, and exploitation are scarce, especially considering that just a few developments retrieve and consume geospatial knowledge graphs from within GIS. To overcome these limitations and address some critical challenges of GIScience, standards and specific best practices for publishing, retrieving, and using geospatial data on the Web have appeared. Nevertheless, there are few developments and experiences that support the possibility of expressing queries across diverse knowledge graphs to retrieve and process geospatial data from different and distributed sources. In this scenario, we present an approach to request, retrieve, and consume (geospatial) knowledge graphs available at diverse and distributed platforms, prototypically implemented on Apache Marmotta, supporting SPARQL 1.1 and GeoSPARQL standards. Moreover, our approach enables the consumption of geospatial knowledge graphs through a lightweight web application or QGIS. The potential of this work is shown with two examples that use GeoSPARQL-based knowledge graphs.

I. INTRODUCTIONThe metaverse is an iteration of the Internet with immersive and hyperreal 3D digital virtual worlds. It can recreate the physical world using technologies such as digital twins, avatars, and holograms. Besides creating digital models of physical environments, the metaverse allows the existence of virtual information, objects, human beings, and environments that do not exist in the physical world. The mixture of real and virtual content in the metaverse can significantly improve users' capabilities for work, entertainment, education, healthcare, and manufacturing [1]. Development of the metaverse includes three major areas:(1) metaverse content/service design, (2) metaverse core and edge network design, and (3) fully connected networks for metaverse devices in the physical world. First, the metaverse virtual content and services emphasize social connections and interactions with the physical world. The design of virtual content and services requires digital computing, modeling, and rendering technologies. Second, the core and edge networks are needed to deliver metaverse content and services to end users. Although existing computer networks can provide basic metaverse services, the newly-proposed compute-and data-intensive networks [2] and the New Internet Protocol (New IP) [3] are efficient in processing metaverse data packets. Last, metaverse devices, sensors, actuators, and displays must be fully connected considering different levels of data rates, latency, and reliability. This keynote will cover all three areas with special emphasis on wireless communication and networking in the second and third areas. 5G and beyond wireless systems have enabled the creation and development of the metaverse. However, their performance cannot support the high Quality-of-Experience (QoE) metaverse. The most popular tools to get access to the metaverse are the extended reality (XR) Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs) [4]. However, some users experience frustration, eye strain, sickness, and prolonged use is prohibitive due to their large weight and low resolution of the HMDs [5]. Although working and living in the metaverse provides various choices and support that are not available in reality, the experience of using existing HMDs is not convenient and even creates anxiety for some users, according to a recent study [5].The metaverse has become one of the driving applications for 6G and beyond wireless systems since 5G and beyond wireless systems cannot fully address wireless communication and networking issues. It is anticipated that the 6G and beyond wireless systems will provide high-data-rate, low-latency, high-reliability, and fully-connected data communications for metaverse devices, which can enable users to comfortably enter and use metaverse applications with high QoEs.
