Interobserver Reliability of Endoscopic Ultrasonography: Literature Review

Abstract: Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has been applied to the diagnosis of various digestive disorders. Although it has been widely accepted and its diagnostic value is high, the dependence of EUS diagnosis on image interpretation done by the endosonographer has persisted as an important difficulty. Consequently, high interobserver reliability (IOR) in EUS diagnosis is important to demonstrate the reliability of EUS diagnosis. We reviewed the literature on the IOR of EUS diagnosis for various diseases such as chron… Show more

“…However, the interobserver reliability (IOR) of the EUS findings in the diagnosis of CP has been previously discussed, and the IOR of the EUS findings based on the Rosemont classification is not necessarily high [ 18 , 19 ]. We observed similar results in the literature review of the IOR of the EUS findings in the diagnosis of CP [ 20 ]. The use of diagnostic criteria that have been shown to have high IOR may lead to a highly accurate final diagnosis.…”

“…2 However, the interobserver reliability (IOR) of the EUS findings in the diagnosis of ECP has been previously discussed. 3,4 Therefore, we evaluated the IOR of EUS criteria for diagnosis of ECP comparing DCECP2009 and DCECP2019. 3 The overall K-value for the IOR of EUS criteria in DCECP2009 was 0.424, and that of DCECP2019 was 0.618.…”

“…Some reports have compared the diagnostic performance of conventional methods with that of the Rosemont classification, but no significant differences in the correct diagnosis rates are clear, partly because of interobserver reliability (IOR) and the complexity of the Rosemont classification. 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 30 , 31 …”

“…Some reports have compared the diagnostic performance of conventional methods with that of the Rosemont classification, but no significant differences in the correct diagnosis rates are clear, partly because of interobserver reliability (IOR) and the complexity of the Rosemont classification. [24][25][26][27]30,31 In recent years, EUS-elastography (EUS-EG) has become available, further improving the ability of EUS to diagnose fibrosis in CP. [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40] Actually, EUS-EG is a more objective method to diagnose fibrosis of the pancreas using EUS.…”
