Recently, cell phones have received much attention in the context of EFL/ESL learning. Mobile learning, in general, and distant learning, in particular, in educational contexts has been approached by educationalist all over the world (Hwang & Chang, 2011). Presently, countries pay ample attention to mobile learning in education. Despite the fact that devices such as cell phones might divert students' attention, yet, no one can deny their importance as high-tech educational tools. This study investigates EFL college students' attitudes towards cell phones learning. For the sake of satisfying the study's objectives, a questionnaire has been designed and randomly distributed to 300 female undergraduate students enrolled during the First Academic Term (2014/2015). The questionnaire is consisted of 3 sections and 39 items. Section 1, students' attitudes towards the usefulness of mobile learning (26 items), section 2, investigation of students' opinions towards reasons where and why they and their instructors use cell phones (12 items), and section 3, an open-ended question, asking students if they have any comments on the importance of cell phones (1 item). The questionnaire consisted 5-Point Likert type scale. Data were quantitatively analysed using SPSS, and ANOVA tests. Percentages, means, and standard deviations, were used for the sake of the analysis. The open-ended question was analysed qualitatively.

The study investigated the impact of utilisation of Internet services and resources on academic activities of university lecturers' in Adamawa State, Nigeria. This study is guided by two objectives, one research question and a single hypothesis. Survey research method was adopted to carry out research from Adamawa State University (ADSU) Mubi, American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola and Modibbo Adama University of Technology, (MAUTECH) Yola. The population for the study consisted of 847 lecturers in the Universities. A sample of 265 respondents was drawn using the Krejcie and Morgan's (1970) table for determining sample size for a given population. Furthermore, stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting respondents for the study. The instrument used for data collection was a set of questionnaire. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics to answer the research question, while inferential statistics of Chi-square was used to test the formulated null hypothesis. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) tool, version 20.0 was also used for the analysis. Results revealed that the level of utilisation of Internet services and resources was generally moderate. In addition, impact of utilisation of Internet services and resources was rated moderate. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended among others, that there is the need for Universities to create more awareness and engage in sensitisation, demonstrations and training workshops on the use and benefits for academic activities. Lecturers should be encouraged to use Internet services and resources for collaboration with their colleagues for publication activities, especially online publications.

AbstractPurpose -The purpose of this paper is to investigate disciplinary differences in the use of networked information for research and scholarly communication at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), Oman. The paper produced quantitative data on how and why academics within different disciplines utilise networked information either made available internally through the university library, or externally through services accessed by the internet. Design/methodology/approach -A questionnaire survey was conducted with academic staff at SQU. Findings -Statistical analysis found a number of significant differences between respondents in the science disciplines and those in the social sciences and humanities with regard to their use of, and attitudes towards, digital information services. While respondents from science disciplines show overall longer and more frequent use of networked information, respondents from humanities and social sciences indicated more positive attitudes towards library networked services.Research limitations/implications -The Arab country context presents a challenge in determining the degree to which results can be extrapolated to other environments, in that disciplines are also divided by language. Science disciplines teach in English, and the social science and humanities in Arabic. Originality/value -While similar studies have been undertaken in developed countries, this study is an attempt to establish some data for a developing Arab country.
