Internet of things: Vision, applications and research challenges

Abstract: The term ''Internet-of-Things'' is used as an umbrella keyword for covering various aspects related to the extension of the Internet and the Web into the physical realm, by means of the widespread deployment of spatially distributed devices with embedded identification, sensing and/or actuation capabilities. Internet-of-Things envisions a future in which digital and physical entities can be linked, by means of appropriate information and communication technologies, to enable a whole new class of applications a… Show more

“…These processes can be accomplished either among the devices themselves or between them and the interconnected objects, end users or other entities on the network. Achieving full access to these talents and this vision can be seen as a major challange (Miorandi et al, 2012(Miorandi et al, : 1498. Still, the process is moving fast.…”

“…The SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) [66], the CC (Cloud Computing) [67] and the IoT (Internet of Thing) [68] provide remote implementation of software/hardware functions, which brings possibility to utilize remote design module services via internet, and it may achieve a bright future in which worldwide design resources could be collaborated to accomplish one design task.…”

“…Sensor technology is the most important factor in IoT because sensors offer enormous amounts of information for many types of environment. Accordingly, various sensors such as gas, pressure, illumination, tilt, temperature, and motion sensors have been heavily studied to more precisely measure and monitor changes in environments [2]. In particular, diverse applications of the gas sensor in broad fields including the detection of air pollutants and gaseous hazards, homeland security, medical diagnosis, and fuel combustion control have accelerated studies for high-performance gas sensors [3][4][5][6][7].…”
