Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection (e-STI) testing and results service: A randomised, single-blind, controlled trial

Abstract: BackgroundInternet-accessed sexually transmitted infection testing (e-STI testing) is increasingly available as an alternative to testing in clinics. Typically this testing modality enables users to order a test kit from a virtual service (via a website or app), collect their own samples, return test samples to a laboratory, and be notified of their results by short message service (SMS) or telephone. e-STI testing is assumed to increase access to testing in comparison with face-to-face services, but the evide… Show more

“…urine, and high vaginal swabs) has shown to increase POCT use and is thus an important consideration in POCT development . Self‐testing and sampling have increased screening uptake, but innovative treatment services to avoid ineffective and inappropriate treatment should be explored . POCT implementation should consider integration within the STI management pathways, including patient flow, immediate treatment, partner management and retesting , and the existing health systems .…”

“…RMST and difference in RMST have been accepted by many researchers and wildly used. In a randomized controlled trial, to re ect the convenience of Internet-accessed sexually transmitted infection testing, difference in RMST was tested to assess difference in the time to test [15]. A prospective cohort study exploring the relationship between midlife cardiorespiratory tness and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease performed both Cox models and RMST analysis, estimated HR and changes in RMST of incidence of COPD and presented death simultaneously, which increased the reliability and understandability of the conclusion [16].…”
