International Declaration

Abstract

of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID) have visited Kuwait from 21-25 June 1992 to attend the jury meeting. -And after site visits to Kuwaiti organisations, libraries and information Centres which represented the core of culture and knowledge in Kuwait. -And, after meetings with key figures and supervisers of libraries and information centres in Kuwait who explained in some detail the recent situation and the damage to the infrastructure of libraries and information Centres in Kuwait. -And, the representatives of the two federations noted-with deep sorrow-the amount of destruction which was wrought on libraries and information Centres in Kuwait and the amount of damage to their collections, information resources, furniture, equipment, hardware and software. As a results -The two Federations invite the International Libraries and Information Communities and all their members to take note of the situation and to support libraries and information Centres in Kuwait and to foster understanding towards the requirements, and support needed by the Kuwaiti institutions as a result of this catastrophe which was never recorded before and which is considered as a real crisis affecting members of the two Federations. -The two Federations urge their members to adopt a policy of close cooperation with the libraries and information Centres in Kuwait. Therefore, the two Federations call on their members to take an active role in rebuilding the Kuwaiti libraries and information Centres. -The two Federations encourage all their members to respond actively and urgently to this declaration, and consider appropriate methods on their part which can assist libraries and information Centres in Kuwait in their recovery progress.
