The authors previously reported that the three components of the Okada Health and Wellness Program -diet, art, and biofield therapy -are likely to improve quality of life and contribute to whole-person health when practiced together. Biofield therapy is expected to enhance each other's effectiveness when combined with other health practices. Integrative medicine in Japan has taken a rather unique path in comparison to other countries. The Society for Integrative Medicine Japan and the Party of Japan Parliamentarians for the Promotion of Integrative Medicine by the Diet members have defined integrative medicine as having a medical model and a social model. The medical model is mostly identical to the concept of integrative medicine in other countries. Whereas the social model is a community-driven means of improving each other's quality of life using interdisciplinary knowledge. The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan have reminded people of the importance of care in medical treatment. Expectations have been growing for integrative medicine to contribute to the achievement of a healthy longevity society due to the synergistic benefits of the medical and social models. The facilities (Ryo-in), operated in partnership with the MOA International Corporation and medical corporation foundations, are aware of the importance of care in medicine and have been providing Okada Health and Wellness Program along with Western medicine as integrative medicine. Ryo-in also works with the local community, providing consultation on community concerns and supporting local health and welfare activities. Tokyo Ryo-in is certified as an accredited facility for both the medical and social models of integrative medicine.

Introduction There has been accumulating interest in the application of biofield therapy as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to treat various diseases. The practices include reiki, qigong, blessing, prayer, distant healing, known as biofield therapies. This paper aims to state scientific knowledge on preclinical and clinical studies to validate its potential use as an alternative medicine in the clinic. It also provides a more in-depth context for understanding the potential role of quantum entanglement in the effect of biofield energy therapy. Content A comprehensive literature search was performed using the different databases (PubMed, Scopus, Medline, etc.). The published English articles relevant to the scope of this review were considered. The review gathered 45 papers that were considered suitable for the purpose. Based on the results of these papers, it was concluded that biofield energy therapy was effective in treating different disease symptoms in preclinical and clinical studies. Summary Biofield therapies offer therapeutic benefits for different human health disorders, and can be used as alternative medicine in clinics for the medically pluralistic world due to the growing interest in CAM worldwide. Outlook The effects of the biofield energy therapies are observed due to the healer’s quantum thinking, and transmission of the quantum energy to the subject leads to the healing that occurs spiritually through instantaneous communication at the quantum level via quantum entanglement.

This systematic review evaluated whether reiki had an impact on patients undergoing chemo-therapy, with possible improvement of the following outcomes: fatigue, pain, anxiety and quality of life. Method: Systematic review study with meta-analysis conducted at a tertiary care center. The following databases were searched until July 2020: MEDLINE, LILACS and CENTRAL. Two re-viewers independently examined eligible articles, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias using the Cochrane tool. Results: The analyzes included eight studies and showed that there was a sta-tistically significant for anxiety control (MD = -2-09; 95% CI: -3.00 to -1.19; I2 = 51%) and Quality of life (MD = -5.97; 95% CI: -10.70 to -1.25; I2 = 97%) but no statistically significant difference was found for the other outcomes analyzed. An analysis of the risk of bias has uncertain methodological limitations in the studies. Conclusions: Although there is anxiety control and improved quality of life, there is a need for the elaboration of randomized clinical trials with larger populations to verify their real performance in controlling some side effects during chemotherapy.
