International Crime Victimization Survey

Abstract

The International Crime Victimization Survey is a comprehensive victimization survey that has been standardized for cross‐national comparison. The survey includes data collected from more than 80 countries between 1989 and 2010. The main focus of this survey is criminal victimization and perceptions of crime. The survey allows for researchers to understand victimization, fear of crime, perceptions of police, as well as sociodemographic measures cross‐nationally. There are many strengths to the survey along with some limitations. Prior research has utilized the ICVS to gain a better understanding of victimization and crime trends across nations.
