“…The results of the current study in conjunction with the results of the aforementioned studies (9,11,13) further the conversation and justification in the use of more comprehensive methods to assess and evaluate service member fitness and physical capabilities. Based on the actions of the various military service branches it appears that most, if not all, service branches now recognize the value of incorporating some form of purposeful combat/performance/operational/functional fitness test/program.…”

“…The focus of the introduction to the current study discussed the evolution of fitness and combat readiness assessments solely through the lens of the armed forces. However, in recent years the military, academia, and exercise science communities have teamed up through research, meetings, conferences, and panels to examine current research findings and military assessments (11,19,20,22). Likewise, studies have also examined task performance readiness assessments, return-to-duty protocols, physical logistical capabilities and training strategies for military women; all in an effort to better assess and train military personnel for logistical and operational soldering tasks (4,9,18,21,34 (19).…”

“…An analysis of research priorities identified by delegates of the 2014 and 2017 International Congress on Soldiers' Physical Performance (ICSPP) reveals an almost exclusive and continuous focus on sustaining or restoring normal human function (Table 3). 53,54 Although the scientific program of the 2020 ICSPP displayed evidence of a stronger focus on psychological and cognitive factors, the core emphasis remained unchanged. Using the thirty participant-proposed thematic sessions as a proxy for the previous priorities obtained by questionnaire, one quarter of the topics included cognitive workload and performance in physically demanding environments and wearable or assistive technologies.…”

“…Desse modo, de acordo com Lovalekar et al (2018), a grande demanda de atributos físicos em condições minimamente ideais é um dos fatores que torna a atividade militar única. Por esse motivo, muitos países têm investido em centros de pesquisa e clínicas para o aprimoramento do desempenho humano com o objetivo de analisar os fatores relacionados à performance, prontidão, saúde e resistência em situações de combate.…”
