International clinimetric evaluation of the MG‐QOL15, resulting in slight revision and subsequent validation of the MG‐QOL15r

Abstract: The MG-QOL15r is now the preferred HRQOL instrument for MG because of improved clinimetrics and ease of use. This revision does not negate previous studies or interpretations of results using the MG-QOL15. Muscle Nerve 54: 1015-1022, 2016.

“…The MGQOL15 has been validated in English and subsequently in Japanese, Persian, French, Italian, and Dutch . A revised version (MGQOL15R) has recently been validated . The 3‐response option (0, not at all; 1, somewhat; and 2, very much) used in the revised version is easier to interpret and has better clinimetric properties than the 5‐response option in the original version .…”

“…In addition, rewording of the items “ocular,” “work,” and “driving” has improved the face and content validity of the revised version . The total score of the MGQOL15R ranges from 0 to 30, with higher scores indicating worse HRQOL …”

“…We included only those patients who were asked the question posed in the last paragraph. The question was mainly asked at follow‐up visits, and to those who had additionally completed at least 1 of the validated MG scales—either the Quantitative Myasthenia Gravis Score (QMGS) in 2014, or the Myasthenia Gravis Impairment Index (MGII) or 15‐item Myasthenia Gravis Quality of Life scale (MG‐QOL15) in 2015. For those patients who had difficulty responding, the question was clarified as follows, “If 100% means no symptoms or limitations due to MG, and 0% means maximum disability, where would you rank your disease at present?” For patients attending the PFNC in 2014, demographic data, clinical examination, electrophysiological results, antibody status, as well as QMGS scores were extracted from the chart.…”
