Internal Grasper and Magnetic Anchoring Guidance System in Gynecologic Laparoendoscopic Single-site Surgery: A Case Series

Abstract: Study Objective: To evaluate and report preliminary data after the use of an internal grasper and magnetic anchoring guidance system (MAGS) to allow free movement and optimal triangulation in the abdominal cavity during gynecologic laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS). Design: A prospective, single-center case series. Setting: The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University. Patients: Eighteen female patients underwent MAGS-assisted LESS with an internal grasper. Interventions: A single surge… Show more

“…Mechanically, the magnetic anchor device can generate non-contact attraction outside the body cavity on the target magnet in the cavity, thus being able to create a traction and counter traction effect, which may pull the tissue or organs away from the surgical field and improve the visibility of the anatomical structures. The MAT has been piloted to assist thoracoscopic lung wedge resection and esophagectomy[ 18 , 19 ], laparoscopic cholecystectomy[ 14 , 15 ], and laparoscopic hysterectomy[ 20 ]. Moreover, in the endoscopic operation technique, the MAT has been shown to assist the lesion traction in endoscopic submucosal dissection[ 21 , 22 ].…”

“…Zhang et al successfully used an internal grasper and magnetic anchoring guidance system to perform single-port laparoscopic surgeries in 18 patients with benign gynecological diseases 29 . Also, magnetic pressing technology had been successfully used for vascular anastomosis 30,31 , digestive tract anastomosis 32 , and rectovaginal fistula repair 33 , etc.…”

“…The disadvantage is that it may necessitate an assistant to control the anchoring magnet, but if an effective external holding device is used, the need for assistance can be avoided. Sintered neodymium iron boron material is a commonly used material in magnetic anchor device at present 21 23 . The surface protection method can be nickel coating, titanium nitride coating and so on.…”
