Introduction: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is an occlusive atherosclerotic disease of the arteries of the extremities of the body that affects more than 230 million people worldwide. The most common symptom is intermittent claudication, described as leg pain which occurs mainly while walking. The symptoms impair the ambulation and functional capacity of patients, leading to loss of mobility, disease deterioration, increased risk of other cardiovasculardiseases, and lower quality of life (QoL). Therefore, the aim of this study was to perform a cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the VascuQol-6 questionnaire for the Portuguese population to obtain a quick, sensitive, and easy-to-use way to assess the QoL of Portuguese patients diagnosed with PAD.Methods: The Vascular Quality of Life-6 Questionnaire (VascuQoL-6) was adapted and translated into European Portuguese using standard validation methodology, including 115 patients with a mean age of 64.67 (7.23) years, with PAD with IC stable for more than three months; and ABI < 0.9 at rest. VascuQoL-6, SF-36, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and the PAD Knowledge Questionnaire (PADKQ) were used. Reliability, construct validity analysis through convergent and discriminant validity, known-group validity, and responsiveness analysis were tested.Results: The Cronbach’s alpha was 0.64 and the average inter-item correlation was 0.27, indicating acceptable internal consistency. VascuQoL-6 was positively associated with SF-36 Physical Component Summary and Mental Component Summary scores (r = 0.64, p < 0.01 and r = 0.42, p < 0.01, respectively). In turn, there was no significant correlation between VascuQoL-6 scores and the PADKQ or IPAQ. A statistically significant difference between groups according to IC severity [F(2.47) = 8.35, p < 0.001] was found. A paired samples t-test showed differences between VascuQol-6 scores before a walking program (M = 15.65, SD = 3.09), and after a walking program (M = 17.41, SD = 2.71), t(67) = 3.94, p ≤ 0.001.Conclusion: The VascuQoL-6 is a six-item instrument to assess the QoL associated with PAD with good psychometric properties, convergent and discriminant validity with SF-36, PADKQ and IPAQ. The instrument proved to have known group validity and responsiveness.

Background and Purpose With the improved life expectancy of people living with HIV (PLWH) due to widespread use of antiretroviral therapy (ART), there is a greater emphasis on enhancing long-term well-being and overall quality of life for PLWH. Understanding interpersonal personalities of PLWH can gain further insight into how to improve the overall quality of life in this population. The International Personality Item Pool-Interpersonal Circumplex (IPIP-IPC) scale has been developed to assess interpersonal personalities of individuals, and this scale has been translated into Chinese. However, the Chinese version of IPIP-IPC has not been tested among PLWH in China. In this study, we aimed to test the psychometric properties and circumplex structure of this scale. Methods This study was based on cross-sectional, multi-center, large sample data. We employed the Chinese version of IPIP-IPC scale on 3040 PLWH from April 2022 to April 2023 in China to test its psychometric as well as circumplex properties. The structural summary method (SSM) was employed to analyze the circumplex structure of the scale. Results The total scale exhibited a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.85 and McDonald’s omega of 0.91. Out of the 288 possible relationships, 275 relationships satisfy the circular properties hypothesis. The scale demonstrates good reliability and validity, meeting the requirements of psychometrics. Conclusion Our findings demonstrate that the Chinese version of the IPIP-IPC scale is a reliable tool for evaluating interpersonal personalities in this population. These results highlight the validity and applicability of the IPIP-IPC scale specifically in the Chinese context, providing valuable insights into the intricacies of interpersonal traits among PLWH.

This paper describes the development and empirical validation of an instrument for measuring state distress and eustress, the Di-Eu-Stress State (DESS) Scale. In three studies, factorial validity (Study 1), construct validity (Study 2), predictability, and predictive validity (Study 3) were tested. We used data from 1,250 participants including 819 undergraduates and 431 employees from seven distinct cross-sectional and one ecological momentary assessment (EMA) sample. Study 1: Following exploratory factor analysis, two cross-sectional and one multilevel confirmatory factor analyses supported the resultant two-factor structure of distress and eustress across different contexts and measurement methods as well as against established holistic stress measures. Study 2: Construct validity of the DESS Scale was evaluated with convergent and discriminant measures as well as against established holistic stress measures. Study 3: Multilevel regression models showed the assumed results of demands and resources as antecedents of distress and eustress, respectively, as well as of the prediction of job and study satisfaction by distress and eustress. We discuss the key findings and limitations of each study as well as the practical implications of the DESS Scale in both the field of stress research and the vocational world. Suggestions for further validation of the DESS Scale are proposed.
