“…However, while the use abdominal ultrasound-guided insertion has been reported in many cases recently [10,11], there are a lack of data regarding the safety and efficacy of transrectal methods. Abdominal ultrasound-guided needle insertion is susceptible to hindrance caused by factors such as intestinal gas, obesity, and posture, and images may be not clear enough for clinical use [12,13]. However, while transrectal ultrasound provides clearer images of the structure of the uterus and surrounding tissues and guides insertion of the needle, there are few reports in the literature on the accuracy of this process.…”

“…From our experiences, TAUS-guided brachytherapy improved the dose to the normal tissues. It reduced the cumulative overdose to the bladder (>80 Gy) and rectum (>75 Gy) in comparison to standard point A treatment and our intermediate-term results showed the 2-year local control of 88% [45]. From 2012 to 2018, more than 100 patients were treated with this technique.…”

“…Clinical outcomes achieved with ultrasound-guided planning at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre compare well with other image-guided protocols (see Table 1) [19,24e36]. Tharavichitkul et al [36] have also published clinical outcomes based on ultrasound planning with similar local control. The results of the international EMBRACE 1 study have recently been presented and indicate further improvements in local control, cancer-specific survival and overall survival [35].…”
