Interleukin-8 is associated with circulating CD133+ progenitor cells in acute myocardial infarction

Abstract: In AMI, IL-8 is associated with circulating progenitor cells. In addition to the pro-angiogenic functions of IL-8 and VEGF, this mechanism may contribute to new vessel generation and, thereby, improve myocardial function.

“…IL-8 is another constituent of WPB, which is released upon their exocytosis (21). Secretion of IL-8 after myocardial infarction was found to be associated with mobilization of EPC (23). Hence, it is possible that the reduced level of EPC and HSC mobilization and recruitment to the ischemic kidneys in ITF 1697-treated animals is a manifestation of curtailed release of IL-8 and Ang-2.…”

“…4 In other studies, other diverse combinations of markers have been used to identify putative precursors in blood independent from CD45 expression such as total CD34 11,[17][18][19]24 As a result of these heterogenous phenotypes, flowcytometric data may be difficult to interpret, not comparable between the different laboratories, and may result in discrepancies. Moreover, most of the suggested precursor phenotypes cited above were not directly tested for true endothelial capacity, neither in vitro nor in vivo.…”

“…13,14 Therefore, we also included the common leukocyte marker CD45 in our analysis, which marks CD34 ϩ HPC in postnatal life, 15 but is not expressed on primitive embryonic HPC or ECs. 16 Although circulating CD34 ϩ endothelial precursors were reported to be CD45 positive by some 17,18 and negative by others, 19 the suggested CD45 ϩ or CD45…”

“…To simplify statistical calculations, the only patient with MBG 0 was reported in the MBG-1 group (8 patients). In 66% of the patients (40 patients), a total absence of collateral circulation was observed (Rentrop [20][21][22][23] One of the released factors is hypoxia-induced factor 1, which stimulates the secretion of growth factors such as VEGF and fibroblast growth factor.…”
