Interleukin‐2 gene polymorphism inTurkish patients withBehçet's disease and its association with ocular involvement

Abstract: Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic immune-mediated systemic disease, characterized by oral and genital lesions and ocular inflammation. Several cytokine genes may play crucial roles in host susceptibility to BD, because the cytokine production capacity varies among individuals and depends on the cytokine gene polymorphisms. The association of the interleukin (IL)-2 gene polymorphisms with the susceptibility to BD was investigated in this study. DNA samples were obtained from a Turkish population of 97 patients… Show more

“…14 A trial by Kotter et al detected that the serum IL1Ra levels increased following treatment with an anti-inflammatory agent in BD patients with ocular involvement. 17 While we failed to observe a correlation between the IL-2 gene polymorphism and the ocular involvement, the results were found to be statistically significant when the IL-1␤ gene polymorphism was assessed for ocular involvement.…”

“…29 A recent study reported that IL-2 gene polymorphisms might be associated with ocular involvement in BD. 30 Recently there have been conflicting data regarding the role of IL-2 in BD. Akkurt et al 10 reported similar serum levels of IL-2 in patients with BD and the control group.…”

“…In this study, we also researched the IL-2(-330) gene polymorphism of patients with CRSwNP. This gene polymorphism is linked to many inflammatory and neoplastic diseases such as basal cell carcinoma, Graves' disease (IL-2 -330T/G), hepatocellular carcinoma; multiple sclerosis IL-2 (-330 T/T), Behçet's disease where the IL-2 (-330 GT) genotype shows susceptibility and the IL-2(-330 T/T) genotype shows a preventive impact, nasopharyngeal carcinoma IL-2 (-330 T/G), neuroendocrine tumors, and asthma IL-2 (-330) and IL-2 (+166) [26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33]. The gene and haplotype profiles of patients with asthma and chronic obstructive airway disease (COPD) have been mentioned in a few studies.…”
