“…In order to address this issue, a Joint Research Project (JRP), in the frame of the European Metrology Research Programme [7], called "IND04 MetroMetal" [6] and entitled "Ionising radiation metrology for metallurgical industry" was dedicated to envisage, study and provide a possible solution to the problem of standardisation and traceability. Fourteen European countries [8] with their National Metrology or Designated Institutes in the field of ionising radiations took part in the JRP and actively cooperated in carrying out the seven work packages that the programme comprises. Among the several topics covered by the project, all aimed at making the radioactive controls at steel mills more traceable, of particular importance were those concerning the development of measuring instruments optimised to be operated in a steel factory and to their testing at available steel mill facilities, respectively.…”
