Un‐restricted diffusion channels for ions and molecules within catalytic composites is of practical significance for environmental remediation with aqueous reaction systems. Herein, hierarchical Co/N‐co‐doped carbonaceous beads with diffusion‐promoting nanostructures for activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) were prepared through a seaweed‐based hydrogel strategy. Several technologies were applied to characterize resultant samples including XRD, SEM, TEM, XPS and N2 adsorption‐desorption. The degradation was carefully tested in simulations of real conditions such as in running water, laboratory waste liquid, and seawater, which indicated that the catalyst/PMS system has a practical and a wide range of degradation capacity. Moreover, SA/N−CoxOy could also prepared with waste cobalt solution, and also showed relatively good catalytic performance. In contrast to other works which mostly concentrated on the study of static testing, this research is mainly concerned with dynamic degradation. Batch and fixed‐bed column degradation experiments were simultaneously carried out to evaluate the efficiency and potential industrial applications, which revealed that the as‐prepared sample led to the fast removal of 90.26% of MB within 400 minutes and continuously degraded the dye for 25 h at 298 K. The recycling performance was also investigated by means of dynamic degradation tests, which only showed a slight decline with time.

IntroductionAs one of the most prevalent noble metal materials, Ag nanoparticles (NPs) possess unique distinct heterogeneous catalytic Constructing macroscopic materials with optimal surface structure to immobilize silver nanoparticles polluted in water environment and further maximize their practical functionality still remains a great challenge. An infrequent strategy is developed to build a flexible material system combining PVA-co-PE nanofiber membrane (NFM) scaffold and mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA), which provides a formidable surface interacting with polyethyleneimine (PEI). The resultant PEI/PDA/NFM presents an ultrahigh adsorption capacity (727.8 mg g −1 ) to citrate-capped silver nanoparticles much higher than the values reported in the literatures. The broad applicability of the multifunctional composite membranes in water treatment is further demonstrated. Interestingly, a promising concurrent performance of antibacterial, antifouling, and catalysis is acquired in bacterial filtrations. Benefiting from the structure, a plasma process further enhances the catalytic performance of AgNPs-PEI/PDA/NFM with an ultrahigh turnover frequency value: 6.65 × 10 −1 mol mol −1 min −1 , which facilitates the fast degradation treatment of p-nitrophenol (p-NP) in continuous-flow filtration. The excellent properties can be rationally assigned to the optimized surface structure synergistically determined by the high specific area of porous nanofiber scaffold and high substrate adaptability of reactive polydopamine. This implies the superiority of membranes obtained by present strategy in recycling Ag NPs contaminant and further applies it in fast-efficient wastewater treatment applications.

Herein, a cationic hydrogel microsphere (CHMS) was prepared by inverse suspension polymerization and freeze‐drying and was applied to the adsorptive removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from aqueous solution. Morphological characterization shows that there are lots of folds and pores on the surface of CHMS with a unique petal‐like appearance. According to the chemical structure analysis, CHMS contains plenty of functional groups such as amine and hydroxyl groups. These features give CHMS a larger specific surface area, faster adsorption rate, and higher adsorption capacity than the conventional cationic hydrogel microparticle (CHMP) adsorbent. The adsorption of Cr(VI) in water by CHMS is mainly based on the combination of electrostatic adsorption and redox reaction, with the electrostatic interaction between the protonated amine and Cr(VI) serving as the predominant adsorption mechanism. Experimental results reveal that CHMS can efficiently remove Cr(VI) from simulated wastewater in both batch and continuous adsorption modes, which is primarily due to its distinctive surface morphology and rich functional groups. Furthermore, the common coexisting metal ions in Cr(VI)‐containing wastewater have no substantial negative influence on the adsorption. Therefore, it can be concluded that CHMS has a promising application prospect in the treatment of Cr(VI)‐containing wastewater.
