Interferon Treatment for Thrombocytopenia Associated With Chronic HCV Infection

Abstract: SUMMARYThrombocytopenia is commonly seen in patients with chronic liver disease, due mainly to hypersplenism secondary to portal hypertension. We report a case of chronic hepatitis C admitted with thrombocytopenia of unknown cause. The patient's symptoms and platelet count improved markedly with interferon treatment. We conclude that interferon treatment in chronic C hepatitis may improve HCV‐induced thrombocytopenia.
