Interfacial reaction of intermetallic compounds of ultrasonic-assisted brazed joints between dissimilar alloys of Ti 6Al 4V and Al 4Cu 1Mg

Abstract: Ultrasonic-assisted brazing of Al4Cu1Mg and Ti6Al4V using Zn-based filler metal (without and with Si) has been investigated. Before brazing, the Ti6Al4V samples were pre-treated by hot-dip aluminizing and ultrasonic dipping in a molten filler metal bath in order to control the formation of intermetallic compounds between the Ti6Al4V samples and the filler metal. The results show that the TiAl(3) phase was formed in the interface between the Ti6Al4V substrate and the aluminized coating. For the Zn-based filler … Show more

“…Thus, it can be concluded that magnesium nitrate acts as an oxygen source for the formation of stable oxides like MgO, MgAl 2 O 4 and Al 2 O 3 in the AZ91 MMCs. The beneficial effect of power ultrasound in improving the kinetics of chemical reactions aided by accelerated diffusion of atomic species is well documented [23,24]. Application high power ultrasonic vibrations to the melt in the present work must have favourably influenced the reaction kinetics.…”

“…Ultrasonic brazing using zinc filler material was done with dissimilar materials Ti 6 Al 4 V and Al 4 Cu 1 Mg in the absence and presence of silicon [73]. To regulate the formation of intermetallic compounds, pretreatment by hot dip aluminizing and as well as ultrasonic dipping was carried out, the latter being done in a molten filler bath.…”

“…Modeling and numerical simulation of welding processes have been exploited with many advantages for investigation of physical principles and complex phenomena connected with joining processes [8][9][10][11][12][13]. Together with testing and inspection, numerical simulations are mutually important to understand and predict the performance of the welding processes.…”
