Metals have been existing for ages and the production methods to shape, form the metals as per the requirement for various applications in engineering are so many. The more sophisticated applications in today's advanced technological world calls for better materials to be sustainable for efficient functioning of the system and its longevity. Bimetal cylinders is one such advancement which has taken its own importance for industrial applications and one of the efficient manufacturing practices for producing bimetal cylinders in centrifugal casting. Understanding how molten metals behave during centrifugal casting, and how their properties change due to different process parameters has been a crucial field of study for a sound centrifugal cast. This paper deals with presenting the various combinations of metals used by researchers to develop, analyze and study the bimetal cylinders, its interface, the process parameters, methods etc to improve the quality of casts produced for various applications with less defects.

With the application of stainless steel clad plate (SSCP)-enlarging in the marine engineering field, awareness of the consequences of heat treatment on ameliorating microstructure and mechanical properties in stainless steel (SS)/carbon steel (CS) joints is being raised. However, carbide diffusion from a CS substrate to SS cladding may damage the corrosion resistance during inappropriate heating. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of a hot rolling-produced stainless steel clad plate (SSCP) after quenching and tempering (Q-T) treatment, especially crevice corrosion, was studied by electrochemical and morphological methods, such as cyclic potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Q-T treatment led to more significance in carbon atoms diffusion and carbide precipitation, which made the passive film of the SS cladding surface on the SSCP unstable. Subsequently, a device for measuring the crevice corrosion performance of SS cladding was designed; the Q-T-treated cladding showed lower re-passivation potential (−585 mV) during CPP when compared to as-rolled (−522 mV), with the maximum corrosion depth ranging from 70.1 μm to 150.2 μm. In addition, the processing of crevice corrosion on SS cladding could be divided into three parts, including the initiation, propagation and development stages, which were driven by the interactions between corrosive media and carbides. The generation and growth mechanism of corrosive pits in crevices were revealed.

Compared to hot roll and explosive bonding, there are relatively few studies on warm/cold roll bonding under low temperature conditions. In this article, the warm/cold roll bonding simulation experiment is conducted to research the deformation, interface bonding rate, microstructure, element diffusion behavior, metallographic structure, and phase of carbon steel/stainless steel. The results show that the plastic deformation remains consistent below 400 °C but exhibits temperature sensitivity above 400 °C. The lower strain rate can increase the bonding rate, while insulation treatment may reduce the bonding rate. The formation of cracks is inhibited at 25 °C and 45% reduction rate due to the challenge of cracking the surface oxide film. Temperature significantly affects bonding, with improved performance observed above 600 °C. Uneven element distribution of bonding area may be related to the precipitated compounds, while insulation treatment increases the mutual diffusion ability of elements. The increase in temperature leads to an increase in pearlite, a decrease in ferrite, and decarburization occurs within the carbon steel matrix. The carbon elements diffuse from carbon steel to the surface of stainless steel. The increase in temperature increases the content of surface compounds.
