Interest-driven video creation for learning mathematics

Abstract: The teacher-directed approach characteristic of the traditional classroom normally adopted by mathematics teachers provides few opportunities for students to develop their mathematical problem-solving skills and little encouragement for them to engage in conversation. Furthermore, this approach might not be flexible to students’ individual learning needs and could generate low interest in mathematics among students. To reduce these learning problems, this study proposes a student-centered learning activity cal… Show more

“…Can effectively make up for some shortcomings of traditional teaching activities. Through targeted teaching design, dynamic and interesting pictures, highlight key points and solve difficult points, effectively help students with learning difficulties understand basic concepts, mastering problem-solving methods, experience mathematical ideas, and gain a sense of learning achievement within the effective time of student concentration, Improve mathematics learning performance (Huang, Chou, Wu, Shih, Yeh, Lao, Fong, & Chan, 2020). For most students with learning difficulties, there will be various mistakes in the learning of mathematics.…”

“…This finding is in line with those of Hulsizer (2016) who suggests that when students are in front of the camera or hear their own voice, they may become anxious. This shows that they tend to be shy, thereby increasing their anxiety (Huang et al, 2020). However, research conducted by Kearney & Schuck (2005) shows that making videos causes less anxiety than delivering an oral presentation in a classroom.…”
