Background A limited amount of research has examined how nature-based palliative rehabilitation can be implemented in nursing homes for people with dementia, even though evidence suggests that these gardens are underused. This paper will present the study protocol of an intervention study co-designed in an interdisciplinary collaboration with a nursing home for people with dementia, to develop a tailored nature-based palliative rehabilitation program to increase qualified use of garden with the purpose of promoting a range of health outcomes. Methods The study is a single-cased quasi-experimental mixed methods study. The intervention will be developed, designed, and implemented in collaboration with the nursing home, using different co-design tools and methods. The effect of the intervention will be evaluated using the The Neuropsychiatric Inventory Nursing Home version in combination with medication use, a survey on staff burnout, and cameras in the garden to register garden use. A process evaluation with single- and focus group interviews consisting of various stakeholders in the study will be used to gain knowledge on the intervention processes and implementation. Discussion The paper presents new approaches in the field of palliative rehabilitation for people with dementia using nursing home gardens, through interdisciplinary collaboration, participatory co-design approach and mixed methods design. Using both effect and process evaluation, the study will provide unique insights in the role and importance of participatory process, interdisciplinary collaboration, and tailoring palliative rehabilitation activities in gardens at nursing homes to local needs and wishes. These results can be used to guide other nursing homes and renewal projects in the future. Trial registration ISRCTN, ISRCTN14095773. Registered 15 July 2022—Retrospectively registered.

This paper aims to describe a randomized controlled trial protocol evaluating the effectiveness, cost, and process of a stress process model-based program in dementia caregiving (DeCare-SPM) for family caregivers. Family caregivers of individuals with dementia will be recruited from memory clinics and community settings and randomly assigned to either DeCare-SPM or usual care. DeCare-SPM comprises three face-to-face sessions (ie, problem-based coping, emotion-based coping, meaning-based coping), and a fourth session (ie, social support) including weekly telephone-based consultation for four weeks and then monthly face-to-face boosters. Outcomes will be measured at baseline (T0), and at one (T1), three (T2), and six months (T3). The primary outcome is positive aspects of caregiving and secondary outcomes are caregiving (ie, sense of competence, caregiver burden, social support, anxiety, depression, and quality of life), dementia-related (ie, care dependency, neuropsychiatric symptoms, and quality of life), and stress-related biomarkers of blood and saliva. In addition, process and economic evaluations will be performed. Mixed-effects models will be used to assess intervention effects. Content analysis will be performed on the qualitative data. This paper described the protocol for comprehensive evaluation of the effectiveness, cost, and process of the theory-driven DeCare-SPM to inform how and why interventions work. It highlights the need to reduce challenges and enhance the positive aspects of dementia care. The DeCare-SPM will provide evidence-based insights into how to support and empower family caregivers in their important roles, thereby, leading to improved dementia care.

In today’s world, it is not enough for students to just learn from a single-track learning. Moreover, it is even more important for students as well as teachers to tackle issue they learn in the classroom from various points of views, one way is through an interdisciplinary learning approach. In order for teachers to be competent in applying interdisciplinary learning, the right type of leadership needs to guide these teachers. Besides the right type of leadership, teachers cannot tackle a particular issue on their own, there needs to be a collaboration among the teachers. The purpose of this quantitative study is to analyse the influence of transformational leadership and teacher collaboration on teachers’ ability in implementing interdisciplinary learning at XYZ Schools. Forty-seven teachers at XYZ Schools completed the online questionnaires. The path analysis through PLS SEM method was employed to test the proposed hypothesis. The results showed that transformational leadership has a positive influence on teachers’ ability in implementing interdisciplinary learning. Added to that, teacher collaboration has a positive influence on teachers’ ability in implementing interdisciplinary learning. Also, transformational leadership has a positive influence on teacher collaboration.
