Interactive Exploration of Large-Scale UI Datasets with Design Maps

Abstract: Designers are increasingly using online resources for inspiration. How to best support design exploration without compromising creativity? We introduce and study Design Maps, a class of point-cloud visualizations that makes large user interface datasets explorable. Design Maps are computed using dimensionality reduction and clustering techniques, which we analyze thoroughly in this paper. We present concepts for integrating Design Maps into design tools, including interactive visualization, local neighborhood … Show more

“…The existence of these problems is related to the lack of knowledge of ergonomics among UI designers. [2][3].The goal of UI design is to achieve an "efficient, easy-to-use, and beautiful" interface, which requires UI designers to deeply understand user behavior, cognition, and needs, which are covered by ergonomics [4][5]. In addition, with the rapid development of the Internet and the emergence of new products such as mobile devices and smart homes, UI interface design is also facing new challenges [6][7].…”
