An attenuation technique has been used to measure the total reaction cross section cr" for the systems p+ 'He and p+'He at 10 and 16 incident proton energies, respectively, between 18 and 48 MeV. The attenuations were measured to about 2% and the elastic corrections are known to about 2%. This results in the cr"values being determined to about 8%, with smaller errors than this at the high energies and larger errors than this at the low energies. The data are compared with results from elastic scattering analyses using phase shifts, the optical model, and the resonating-group method.anticoincidence beam-attenuation technique. II. EXPERIMENT A. ApparatusThe University of Manitoba 50-MeV cyclotron was used to provide proton beams of the desired energies. The beam was momentum analyzed by a bending magnet and was tightly collimated before entering the total-reaction-cross-section appara.tus. The magnetic field of the bending magnet was measured with an NMR probe whose resonant frequency was calibrated in terms of proton energy by measuring a series of proton energies with a differential absorption technique. " The technique consists in degrading the proton energy with accurately lapped Si absorbers and determining the residual proton energy through comparison with the known energies of a particles emitted by '~'Am and ThC. The incident proton energies are then determined from Si range-energy tables. " By this method the beam energy was determined to +100 keV. The beam energy spread after momentum analysis and collimation was about 150 keV full width at half maximum (FWHM}.A schematic diagram of the total-reactioncross-section apparatus is shown in Fig. 1. 451

“…We applied the model described in the previous section to p+ 12 C elastic scattering data reported in the literature and collected in the EXFOR database [30,[36][37][38][39][40][41][42] considering a bombarding energy range from ≈30 to ≈80 MeV. As a first approximation, the p+α-like scattering amplitude f i (θ), required to compute equation (1), is obtained via a comprehensive fit, using Optical Model calculations, of existing p+ 4 He elastic scattering data at six different energies, from 31 to 85 MeV; the data were taken from [43][44][45][46], as reported in the EXFOR database (see figure 1). A multi-dimensional cubic spline interpolation of the obtained fit results was used to estimate scattering amplitudes in the whole energy domain investigated in this work, at all scattering angles.…”

We investigate medium-energy angular distributions data of proton elastic scattering on $^{12}$C, with the aim to probe the existence of cluster distributions in the ground state of $^{12}$C. In our approach, we exploit Coupled-Channel calculations to describe the scattering from a spheroidal-like structure, and we include a further contribution, based on a diffraction scattering formula, to explicitly take into account a possible triangular $\alpha$-cluster structure of the target. From the present analysis, we find a quite small cluster component in $^{12}$C ground state (with an upper limit on the occurrence probability of $1\%$, $99.75\%$ confidence level) and an inter-cluster distance of $\simeq 3.9$ fm. These values are compared with several theoretical predictions reported in the literature.

A microscopic approach was used to analyse the investigation of the elastic scattering of protons on 4,6,8 He at energies up to 200 MeV/N. The microscopic single folding (SF) and São-Paulo (SP) potentials were used to generate the real part of the optical model potential, and the Woods-Saxon form was used to phenomenologically compute the imaginary part. Three distinct nuclear densities (GG, GO, and G2S) of 4,6,8 He and Gaussian form effective NN interactions were used to determine the SF potential. A renormalization factor 𝑁𝑅 of the folded real potential as well as the imaginary and spin-orbit potentials were among the free parameters used in the investigation, which was carried out using the FRESCO code. In addition, the overall reaction cross-sections 𝜎𝑅 in the three densities (GG, GO, and G2S) and the related real and imaginary volume integrals of interacting nucleon pairs were examined. The differential and reaction cross-section values that were obtained were in fair accord with the experimental data.
